  • R.S.A.R. can mobilize one or multiple squads who can arrive on scene within 1 - 2 hours to most locations in the tri state area.

Q: Is there a fee for you services?

  • There are no fees for any of the services we provide.

Q: How many members do you have?

  • Currently we have over 50 member volunteers.

Q: Are all donations to R.S.A.R. tax deductible?

  • Yes. R.S.A.R. is a 501(c)3* non-profit New York Corporation.

Q: What is R.S.A.R.’s coverage area?

  • R.S.A.R. generally covers within up to 350-miles of its base in Rockland County, NY including NY, NJ, CT, PA, MD, and DE.

Q: What types of Search & Rescue operations do you do?

  • Wilderness searches, Rural searches, Urban searches, missing persons at sea, etc

Q: What are some of the other type's of calls other than Search & Rescue operations do you respond to?

  • Any and all forms of emergency response in which an individual's life is potentially in danger or at risk of injury, or an individual's property is in danger. Examples include temporary restoration of power for homeowners, responding to flood damage, extricating vehicles stuck in snow or mud, etc. If you or someone you know requires assistance, feel free to call us 24/7

Q: What kinds of training and disaster preparedness is required to maintain membership in R.S.A.R.?

  • All member volunteers undergo an exhaustive and rigorous training regimen and are required to be trained by all of the following:
  • FEMA’s National Incident Management System training
  • Rockland County Office of Emergency & Fire services training provided as part of the Rockland Community Emergency Response Team program.
  • Wildlands Search Skills training program provided by the New York State D.E.C. Forest Rangers service.
  • The National Association of Search & Rescue (NASAR) course
  • 20-hour ATV training course provided by R.S.A.R. seasoned instructors. (off-road unit only)

Q: How do I join?

  • Just click this link: TAKE ACTION and then Join Us. Please notate which unit you are interested in joining (off-road unit, marine, scuba, aviation, K-9, etc)

Q: If I want to join the off-road / ATV unit or Marine unit, does R.S.A.R. supply the vehicle / vessel?

No. All members in our off-road unit utilize and supply their own ATV's for any missions, and the same is true for the marine unit. Members pay for their own expenses such as fuel, etc.

Q: What does it cost to become a member?

  • Membership dues are $125.00 per year. The mandatory uniforms and equipment charge is $340. For the off-road / ATV unit, there is an (optional) additional charge for the Emergency ATV Authorization permit due to the administrative costs associated with it. Emergency ATV Authorization is not required, but is useful as it allows an ATV to be legally driven on a public road in the event of an emergency. (Note, all Authorized Emergency ATV vehicles must contain one or more Red/White light/s affixed to the ATV pursuant to the NYS V.T.L. and members will be required to install same at their own expense.
